You may be surprised to learn that your favorite lipstick can
actually make your teeth look more yellow. Noreen Young, a
makeup artist and lipstick expert based in Jacksonville, FL, says
that she takes several factors into account when choosing a good
lipstick shade for someone, including the color of their teeth. "As
a general rule of thumb, you want to avoid any lipstick with heavy
blue undertones if you have very yellow teeth," says Young,
who makes her own line of cosmetics.
Other shades to avoid include the following: orange-red lipsticks
(especially if you have dark coffee/tea stains); bright fuchsias
and reds (the darker the color, the smaller your mouth will appear);
and yellow-gold shades. "Keep in mind that every person is
going to be different depending on their skin coloring and hair
and eye color," says Young. "Black women, for example,
can get away with almost any shade of lipstick and still have bright
teeth because of their coloring." |
